Advanced First Aid equips learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide an advanced response, manage the incident, and coordinate with other first aiders until medical or other assistance arrives.

This course is suitable for individuals who may be required to provide and manage a first aid response across various complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Your team will learn how to:

  • Understand ARC guidelines for first aid to infants, children, and adults.
  • Identify incident hazards and minimise risks.
  • Know legal and workplace considerations, including duty of care.
  • Recognise CPR techniques and differences for different age groups.
  • Understand signs, symptoms, and management of various conditions and injuries.
  • Know procedures for dealing with casualties, including triage and first aid management in different settings.
  • Understand the use of ancillary first aid equipment and coordination of resources.
  • Know the contents of first aid kits and how to use them.
  • Recognise the psychological impacts of first aid incidents on rescuers and how to seek help.


They will practice:

  • Using Australian guidelines to manage an unconscious, but breathing person.
  • Manage unconscious, non-breathing adults, infants and children, including CPR and AED use.
  • Hand over to emergency services and provide accurate incident reports.
  • Managing various first aid emergencies like anaphylaxis, bleeding, fractures, etc
  • Respond to simulated first aid incidents, assess vital signs and provide treatment.
  • Coordinate a response to multiple casualty incidents, including triage and resource management.

This course builds on basic first aid principles, so we recommend taking basic first aid before enrolling! Some of the topics we will cover, including trauma response and CPR, require foundational skills that we will try to develop. If you’re new to first aid, we suggest starting with our other first aid courses before elevating your skills with our advanced first aid course.
